The Marhaba operation recorded a 28% increase in arrivals at the various port crossings compared with the same period last year.
Launched on June 5 at the behest of King Mohammed VI, the Marhaba operation for this summer is running smoothly overall, thanks to the joint efforts of all those involved in the partner countries.
It is characterized by a capacity that meets the expected flows during peak periods, with 32 ships mobilized to operate on 12 shipping lines to link Moroccan ports with those of Spain, France and Italy, with a view to ensuring 538 weekly trips with a total capacity of 501,000 passengers and 136,000 cars each week.
The Algeciras Bay Port Authority (APBA) has announced that it has welcomed over 20 million passengers over the past two decades, consolidating its position as the main point of connection with Tangier.
Thanks to cooperation between the Moroccan and Spanish authorities, the Marhaba operation is a success, not only because of the growing number of passengers, but also because of the absence of incidents.
According to data from the Spanish Ministry of the Interior, the Marahaba operation at Spanish ports had already recorded 1,876 boat movements up to last Sunday, involving 419,500 passengers and over 101,000 vehicles.
During the summer period, seven port facilities were involved in the operation, including Alicante, Almeria, Malaga, Motril, Tarifa and Valencia.
As for Algeciras, which recorded 1,322 ship rotations, or 70% of the total, the city saw the transport of 236,000 passengers, or 56% of trips, and over 64,000 vehicles, or 63% of the total.
