A Moroccan influencer has been sentenced to three months in prison and a fine of 2,000 dirhams for defamation. The influencer, who has not been named, was found guilty of broadcasting and distributing false allegations through information systems with the intent of defaming a dentist in Rabat.
The case began when the influencer visited the dentist’s clinic to have her cosmetic dental lenses changed. The influencer was initially satisfied with the results, but she later decided that she wanted to change the degree of whiteness to look more natural and fashionable.
The dentist told the influencer that she had gum inflammation and would need to follow certain procedures before any cosmetic intervention. The dentist removed the old lenses and put on temporary ones until the influencer recovered.
However, the influencer refused to pay the fees for the new service. She then took to social media to make false allegations against the dentist, claiming that she had been treated poorly and that the dentist had damaged her teeth.
The dentist filed a lawsuit against the influencer, and the Rabat Court of First Instance found the influencer guilty of defamation. The influencer has appealed the verdict, and the case is currently pending before the Court of Appeal.
The case has drawn attention to the issue of cyberbullying in Morocco. Cyberbullying is a serious problem, and it can have a devastating impact on victims. The Moroccan government has taken steps to address cyberbullying, but more needs to be done to protect victims.
The influencer has not yet commented on the verdict. However, she has said that she is innocent and that she will appeal the verdict.
