For Morocco’s first international robotics competition, “First Lego League Morocco International 2023,” the city of Marrakech will welcome hundreds of young entrepreneurs and tech enthusiasts to give them an opportunity to interact and exchange expertise.
The LOOP For Science & Technology Association and the Moroccan Ministry of Commerce and Industry are supporting the robotics competition, which will take place between May 18 and May 21.
The event will focus on the global challenges associated with UN Sustainable Development Goal 7, which aims to ensure access to affordable, dependable, sustainable, and modern energy, under the theme “SUPERPOWERED”.
In a press release, the organizers said this First Lego League would introduce STEM to children using fun and innovative methods.
The participants are expected to acquire problem-solving skills through the event, after experiencing a guided global robotics program.
With around 800 participants from 50 countries, the competition will consist of 68 teams, who will have to propose innovative solutions related to energy production, storage, transportation, and use.
Laila Berchane, president of the LOOP for Science and Technology Foundation said that hosting the event in Morocco is a great honor as it is a recognition of the years-long efforts of team members as well as volunteers.
“Moreover, this year’s theme is in line with the energy transition process to which the Kingdom of Morocco is committed, and which offers opportunities,” said Berchane.
The multinational initiative called The First Lego League aims to include kids between the ages of 9 and 16 in the study of science and technology.
In the league, teams are challenged to design and construct a robot, then program it to carry out a number of tasks within a set amount of time.
It encourages youth to go through a number of stages of research, discussion, design, modeling, construction, and testing.
The competition’s ending ceremony will name the champions after the official matches, friendship activities, and practice sessions.
The league collaborated with Easy Tours to provide trips and activities for foreign attendees to experience Marrakech’s stunning landmarks.
