In response to accusations of “greedy margin profit” that have followed Moroccan pharmacists ever since the Court of Audit revealed that their margin profit is 57%, Moroccan pharmacists will protest for 24 hours on April 13 all over Morocco.
The following bodies announced the protest in a press release: The National Federation of Pharmacists’ Unions of Morocco (FNSPM), the Confederation of Pharmacists’ Unions in Morocco (CPSM), The National Union of Pharmacists of Morocco (UNPM), and the Federation of Pharmacists of Morocco (FPM).
The same documents stated that the protest comes as a reaction to a series of negative accumulations that the pharmacy sector has known in the past years.
After thoroughly explaining why the pharmacists will be protesting, the press release concluded that the data and conditions presented “have become direct threats to the stability of pharmacists and their ability to peruse their professional duties.”
Therefore, the syndicate bodies announced holding a number of protests because the government is not responding to Moroccan pharmacists’ several demands.
On April 13, they will protest by closing all national pharmacies while enabling all-night pharmacies to handle emergency situations.
Moroccan pharmacists have been publicizing their demands and control ever since a recent controversy that took place when the Audits Court revealed their margin profits, which pharmacists demented and reacted very negatively to.
A pharmacist previously explained to Hespress EN that the 57% presented by the Audits Court does not precisely convey the profit situation due to the lack of explanation on how the profit is split between tax and other costs, which now propagated this “false” image that Moroccan pharmacists are greedy, profiting more in Morocco than in other countries.
In the report, the Audits Court indicated that the profit margins of pharmacists vary between 47% and 57% for drugs whose price is less than or equivalent to MAD 588, excluding taxes.
