The World Health Organization’s member nations, including Morocco, have started discussions on a worldwide agreement on pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response, using the “zero draft” as a starting point for negotiations on a deal to safeguard countries and communities from upcoming pandemic events.

The discussions took place during the weeklong fourth meeting of the Intergovernmental Negotiation Body (INB), which is made up of the 194 WHO member countries, as stated on the WHO’s official page.

A timetable set forward by the World Health Assembly outlined the continuation of negotiations on the draft over the course of the following year.

In order to ensure coordination between the processes, the senior diplomats from Israel and Morocco, who are serving as co-facilitators of the United Nations General Assembly High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response, gave the INB an update on their planning for a meeting on September 20.

According to the WHO’s official page, governments are negotiating more than 300 changes to the International Health Regulations (2005) in addition to the pandemic accord negotiations in an effort to protect the world from communicable diseases and ensure greater equity in the international response to public health emergencies.
