Net direct foreign investment inflows more than tripled, from 637 million dirhams at the end of January 2022 to 2.21 billion dirhams at the end of January 2023, reported the Exchange Office.
In its note on the monthly indicators of foreign exchange for the month of January, the office stated that foreign direct investment revenues increased by 65.9 percent, to reach 3.04 billion dirhams at the end of last January, while expenditures decreased by 31.2 percent.
Moroccan direct investments abroad amounted to 1.15 billion dirhams at the end of last January, registering a decrease of 25.2 percent compared to the same month of 2021.
The rise attests to Morocco’s efforts to implement reforms and initiatives to create a favorable business. Morocco’s strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Africa, and the Middle East, and its well-developed infrastructure, including ports, airports, and transportation networks, make it an attractive destination for international businesses seeking to expand into new markets.
Through tax incentives and favorable financing options, the government has encouraged international businesses to invest in these sectors, creating a more favorable business environment in Morocco. The establishment of the Tangier-Mediterranean Special Economic Zone (TMSEZ) has also played a significant role in attracting investment in the automotive, aeronautics, and electronic industries, with tax exemptions, financing options, and streamlined administrative procedures making Morocco an attractive destination for foreign investors.
At the same time, transfers of these investments amounted to 1.13 billion dirhams, a decrease of 6.5 percent, which led to a decrease in net Moroccan direct investment flows abroad by 93.9 percent.
