The death toll among members of the Moroccan community in Turkey has risen to 6, as a result of the violent earthquake that struck the south of the country last Monday, according to the Embassy of the Kingdom in Ankara.

Official spokesperson for the government Mustapha Baitas had reported last Thursday, that the number of Moroccan community members killed in the earthquake had reached four people.

The devastating earthquake, which had a magnitude of 7.7 on the Richter scale, struck at dawn last Monday in southern Turkey and Syria, leaving widespread destruction hindering rescue efforts.

A few hours after this first violent tremor, another earthquake struck with almost the same intensity, close to the epicenter of the first earthquake, which exacerbated the death toll of the tragedy.

The death toll from the disaster has so far reached more than 21,000 dead and 80,000 injured. Official mourning was declared for a period of 7 days, and a state of emergency in the affected areas for a period of three months.
