Morocco’s Trade with African countries rose to 46 billion dirhams in 2021, four times more the average recorded in the last two decades, Minister of Industry and Trade, Ryad Mezzour, said on Tuesday in House of Advisors.
Mezzour said current ambitions seek to drive up trade with Africa to 65 billion dirhams in 2023.
Access to African market in 2021 was made possible to the widespread network of national banks across the continent, as Morocco bets on the port of Dakhla to become the largest gateway to the African market.
In the same parlimentary session, Mezzour said his government hopes to create one million new jobs by deepening industrial cooperation with national companies.
500,000 jobs have already been create under the framework of the industrial development plan, said the minister. He added that Morocco’s industrial exports rose from 160 billion dirhams in 2013 to 360 billion dirhams now.
Another ambition, said the minister, is to achieve total self-sufficiency, including the fields of energy, food, health and industry.
He also said that the textile sector has begun to emerge from the crisis at the end of the year, and that its exports have witnessed a 30 percent increase, considering that Moroccan textiles faced many problems, including the late winter season in Europe.
