The OCP Group’s Al Moutmir initiative announced the launch of its direct planting program, targeting 25,000 hectares during the upcoming 2022-2023 agricultural season.

The group said in the press release that during the new agricultural season, 3,000 analyses of soil will be conducted for the benefit of 5,000 farmers across 23 provinces.

Additionally, the Group will also provide 45 seeds for the benefit of 50 professional organizations and training programs.

The direct planting technique is based on placing seeds and fertilizers on top of the ground within the framework of conservation agriculture with environmental, economic, and social advantages.

“Under the direct seed system, soil disturbance is minimized, through the use of no-till seeders to conserve soil and water and contribute to the development of soil microbial life,” added the same source.

The OCP group affirmed its commitment to support the agricultural sector through the Mohammed VI Polytechnic University, and the Al Moutmir initiative to consolidate the direct planting technique, given its importance, especially in the current situation characterized by delayed rainfall.

In light of climate changes and poor rainfall, the Moroccan Group stressed the importance of moving towards models of agroecological transformation that allow for diverse and integrated adaptation measures.

Farmers will benefit from support from agricultural engineers in the use of modern technologies and digital platforms for the smooth management of information, in addition to field visits.

Soil analysis is the most important service that takes place within the framework of the initiative, as it is the first step towards sustainable agriculture.

During the upcoming agricultural season, 1030 application platforms for direct planting will be developed, an approach based on selecting a specific field in which modern agricultural techniques will be used, and another traditional field to highlight the differences in plants and crops for the farmer, according to the same source.
