The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) inked, Monday in Rabat, a partnership agreement for promoting human rights and strengthening gender equality.

The agreement, signed at the stand of the CNDH on the sidelines of the 27th International Book Fair (SIEL) by the Secretary General of the CNDH, Mounir Bensalah and Karim Hendili, who is the acting director of the UNESCO Office in Morocco, intends to strengthen the capacity in human rights education, peace and tolerance, as well as to promote gender equality, non-discrimination and social inclusion.

Speaking on this occasion, Bensalah stressed, in a statement to the press, that this agreement signed with the UNESCO Office for the Maghreb will achieve a set of objectives including the dissemination of the culture of human rights.

He added that the agreement aims to carry out studies and actions for the benefit of civil and institutional actors on a set of issues of common interest, including the issue of the right to information.

Hendili highlighted the partnership between UNESCO and the CNDH which places the human being at the center of actions, and this in accordance with a development approach based on human rights with the ambition of promoting individuals.

This partnership, added the UN official, aims to fight all forms of discrimination, and promote gender equality and achieve social inclusion for all categories, explaining that the agreement will help promote rights in several areas, including the preservation of cultural heritage, the right to education, especially distance education, and its post-covid challenges.
