Netflix announced the loss of 200,000 subscribers worldwide in the first quarter of 2022, compared to the fourth quarter of last year, leading it to lose in shares.
The US streaming platform estimates that it could lose up to 2 million subscribers in the second quarter of the current year.
Despite this drop in the number of subscribers, Netflix remains the first streaming service worldwide with a total of 221.64 million subscribers.
In fact, Netflix lost 600,000 subscribers in the US and Canada, as a result of its subscription price increase.
Additionally, the streaming platform suspended its services in Russia in March, following the crisis between Russia and Ukraine.
The suspension of streaming services in Russia led to a loss of about 700,000 subscribers.
Password sharing is also among the issues that Netflix suffers from, making many people benefit from shared passwords without subscriptions.
Last month, the US streaming platform said that it will launch a test to charge its subscribers for password sharing.
Netflix further stated that it will have its subscribers pay an extra fee of USD2.99 if they want to share their passwords with other people, outside their households.
