The US streaming platform Netflix said on March 16 that it will launch a test to charge its subscribers for password sharing.
The group will start testing in the selected countries, including Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru.
The new test will make it possible to find out whether the subscriber shares the password with a sub-member outside of the household or not.
Additionally, Netflix will have subscribers pay an extra fee of USD2.99 if they want to share their password with many people.
This move came after the US streaming company earned only USD8.2 million from paid accounts for the period from September to December 2021.
Previously, Netflix said its subscriber growth slowed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but rebounded following the release of “Squid Game,” a dystopian thriller from South Korea in September, enabling it to reach 213.6 million subscribers globally at that time.
