Hespress journalists Wail Bourchachene and Fatima Zahra Jabbour won the first prize in the TANDEM Media Awards at the International Press Forum held in Tunisia, following their joint publication on Street theater.

The article entitled Street theater: breaking the cultural isolation and discussions affecting the taboos, is aimed to demonstrate theater and street art as ways to find change, mainly for young people.

Tunisia’s event is part of the “Speak up culture” program, funded by the EU Neighbourhood south.

The Media Awards TANDEM is a competition for innovative media content that is based on the concept of a duo work.

The competition targets journalists, Journalism students, and artists, mainly in Algeria, Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Syria, and Tunisia.

The focus of the first edition of the competition was identified for the Media Award in Culture, under the title “Speak up culture!”

For each competition, contestants have to work in duo to produce joint press content, including an article, TV program, radio program, videotape, TV podcast, or cartoon, preferably related to funded cultural projects or initiatives within the European Union.

The first edition rewarded three duos, including Hespress’s duo, a duo consisting of a professional journalist and a Journalism student, and a duo consisting of a journalist and an artist.
