Aziz Akhannouch, Morocco’s head of government, called on companies in the Kingdom, on February 1, to push for generalizing the vaccine pass for all personnel in the workforce.
“The decision to open the borders is a very difficult political decision-maker. Thus, it is necessary to work to reach a generalization of the vaccination of the employees and the employees of the companies” Akhannouch said following his meeting with Chakib Alj, president of the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), about the importance of supporting the recent decision to open the airspace in a suitable manner.
For the purpose of cushioning the shock of COVID-19 in Morocco, the borders were closed for a period of two months, recalls Akhannouch, adding that by taking various measures, Morocco had two peaks instead of five or six as in other countries. Akhannouch notes that restricting movement has psychological, social, and economic consequences.
Minister of Health Khalid Ait Taleb stressed the importance of protecting the Moroccan population, the driving force behind the country’s economic and social growth.
In Morocco, 67.4% of the deaths recorded occurred among the unvaccinated population since the outbreak started, while 41.18% of deaths were attributed to failure to get the 3rd shot, the health minister said.
According to him, a death rate of 1.08% was recorded after the first dose, and a death rate of 9% after the second dose was recorded, indicating a significant difference between the two doses.
The meeting is part of a series of meetings chaired by Akhannouch that aim to examine the epidemiological situation in the Kingdom and raise awareness among Moroccans about the significance of supporting the opening of government-controlled borders to international flights to and from the country.
The meeting was held in the presence of the Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, Khalid Ait Taleb, and the Minister of Economic Inclusion, Small Business, Employment, and Skills, Younes Sekkouri, in addition to Confederation members.
