French carmaker Group Renault said its global car sales dropped by 4.5% to 2.696.401 units in 2021, according to Renault’s recent press release, published January 17.
Renault’s car sales had declined for the third year in a row in 2021, following issues linked to chips supplies.
Renault said that in its five main EU countries, including Germany, France, Italy, and the UK, the share of sales to retail customers now represented 58%, up 6 points compared to 2019, in the pre-pandemic period, according to Renault’s press release.
“The Renault brand is strengthening its position in Europe on the electrified market,” it added in the press release, noting, “ the E-TECH range (electric vehicles and hybrid engines) account for 30% of Renault passenger car sales in Europe in 2021, compared to only 17% in 2020.
The Group’s order backlog in Europe has doubled compared to 2020, accounting for more than three months of sales, following the attractiveness of the Renault E-TECH range, light commercial vehicles, Dacia Sandero, and Dacia Spring 100% electric, according to the same source.
However, inventories have declined by around 30% compared to 2020.
Renault Group stated that it will achieve its CAFE1 targets (passenger cars and light commercial vehicles), the French carmaker company’s press release concluded.
