The Scientific and Technical Committee for the Management of the Pandemic revealed the possibility of licensing the “Paxlovid” drug used to treat patients infected with COVID-19.
The scientific approval of the drug is contingent upon the conclusion of the internal discussion about its medical properties, financial cost, and import opportunities.
Paxlovid, developed by the American pharmaceutical manufacturer Pfizer, is used to treat COVID-19 in the US and Great Britain and is mostly prescribed as a treatment for patients with mild symptoms, requiring little to no hospital care.
Hespress AR sources reported that “granting a license for any medical drug with the aim of adopting it in an official capacity IN the country requires studying all its scientific, economic and social aspects.”
The same sources pointed out that “the drug will be officially used in other parts of the world within the coming months,” offering a better chance of containing the pandemic in 2022.
Morocco has started receiving the first batches of the American drug, “Molnupiravir” after it was officially approved by competent health authorities.
The drug is expected to be available in all national pharmacies and hospital centers in the upcoming week.
Molnupiravir, which the patient takes orally, reduces the ability of the COVID-19 virus to reproduce, slowing possible complications and halves the risk of hospitalization.
