The Moroccan News Agency (MAP) unveiled personalities of the Year 2021, this Saturday, December 25, choosing the rapper El Grande Toto, alongside the international player Achraf Hakimi, the Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah Alaoui, and others.
According to an internal survey conducted by MAP, targeting its journalists at the headquarters across the 12 regions of the country, as well as its international offices, they voted for personalities who marked this year through their professional career or influence on Moroccans.
The Moroccan rapper Taha Fahssi, known as El Grande Toto, was chosen by MAP’s journalists as the personality of the year in the “Arts and Culture” category, following his success during this year, as he was the most-streamed Moroccan artist on Spotify, not only in Morocco but in the whole MENA region.
Additionally, El Grande Toto was awarded the most promising African artist at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA Awards 2021), after he was the only Moroccan artist to be elected in this category.
In sports, the Paris Saint Germain (PSG) player Achraf Hakimi was chosen the personality of the year, following his nomination as the best right-back worldwide by the sports outlet “goal.com,” and was selected among the world squad of the best players of 2021 by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS).
The Minister of Economy and Finance, Nadia Fettah Alaoui, was chosen as the Personality of the Year in the “Economy and Finance” category, amid being the first woman to hold such a position in the country.
In the Media, Communication, Internet, and Social Networks category, journalist Redouane Ramdani was chosen the personality of the Year by MAP journalists, stating, “He was very active on social media, and he stood out in 2021 with his show “Ma’a Ramdani” on 2M TV Channel.”
As for the Social Action, Citizen Initiative, and Human Development category, Professor Azzeddine Ibrahimi, a member of the National COVID-19 scientific committee was chosen the personality of the year by MAP journalists, stating, “he has distinguished himself in 2021 by his tireless efforts in terms of awareness-raising, and communication about the pandemic.”
The Interior Ministry was selected in the “politics and government” category for the success, recognized worldwide of the triple election of September 8, in addition to the intensified efforts in vaccinations, and awareness-raising among Moroccan citizens.
