Morocco’s stock of anti-Covid 19 vaccines reached about 55 million shots, enabling the vaccination of 27 million citizens with two shots, according to Hespress’data.
Morocco will begin administering a third booster shot of the Covid-19 vaccine starting October 4.
On Saturday, Moroccans consumed 4,1967,871 shots of the anti-Covid 19 vaccine products, including Sinopharm, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, and Janssen.
On Sunday, the Kingdom received one million and 273 thousand additional shots of Sinopharm within the framework of the Covax program.
Moulay Mustapha Naji, a member of the scientific committee on vaccination, told Hespress that “it has become urgent to vaccinate citizens with the third shot of anti-Covid 19 vaccines in order to enhance collective immunity.”
“All studies show that anti-Covid 19 vaccines are less effective after about six months from receiving the second shot, adding “the third shot boosts the immune system and provides more protection,” he said.
“It is better to vaccinate citizens with the same as the vaccine product received for the first and second shots,” he added.
Moulay Said Afif, a member of the same committee, told Hespress in a statement that“there is no harm in mixing vaccine products.”
“Preparations are progressing to launch the vaccination of citizens with the booster shots, in which priority will be given to workers, the elderly, and those who are dealing with chronic diseases,” Afif specified.
According to the Ministry of Health’s press release announced on Sunday, eligible people will begin receiving text messages from the number 1717, provided they had been fully vaccinated for at least 6 months.
The administration of the 3rd shot will be carried out only in digital vaccination centers, in Sale and Nouaceur, near Casablanca, without taking into consideration the address requirement.
The Ministry of Health concluded its press release by reminding citizens to keep on respecting restriction measures before and post-vaccination in order to curb the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
