Fouzi Lekjaa set to resign as head of CAF Finance Committee while retaining vice-president role

Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), is reportedly preparing to step down as head of the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) Finance Committee, bringing an end to his tenure at the helm of one of the continental governing body’s key financial structures while retaining his position as CAF’s first vice-president.

Hesport learned from exclusive sources that Lekjaa has decided to relinquish the financial portfolio due to the considerable commitments associated with the role, which require frequent travel, extensive mobility and significant time to oversee various matters related to CAF’s financial management.

According to the same sources, the decision comes as part of Lekjaa’s efforts to reorganise his priorities and devote greater attention to his responsibilities in Morocco, both in the sporting and governmental spheres, as well as to matters related to preparations for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Lekjaa’s departure from the Finance Committee does not, however, signal his withdrawal from CAF’s governing structures. He will continue to serve within the continental body as its first vice-president, retaining his position within CAF’s executive leadership.

During his tenure overseeing the Finance Committee, the FRMF president accumulated considerable experience handling matters related to governance, financial stability, expenditure rationalisation and the strengthening of CAF’s revenue streams.

The institutional procedures required to formalise the change are expected to be completed through CAF’s relevant bodies, in a move that reflects an effort to reduce Lekjaa’s administrative and financial commitments without relinquishing his influence within African football’s decision-making structures.
