Southern Morocco is under an orange weather alert Sunday as temperatures of up to 40°C coincide with thunderstorms, hail and strong wind gusts in parts of the country, according to the General Directorate of Meteorology. The agency’s vigilance system confirms active weather warnings for Oct. 4.
Temperatures between 36°C and 40°C are expected in Guelmim, Tan-Tan, Taroudant, Es-Semara, Agadir-Ida Outanane, Chtouka-Ait Baha, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Tiznit, Laayoune, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab and Aousserd.
Oued Eddahab, Boujdour and Aousserd are also forecast to receive 25 to 35 millimeters of thunderstorms between noon and 11 p.m., with hail and strong gusts possible.
Unstable conditions are expected to return Tuesday, when locally strong thunderstorms are forecast over the High and Middle Atlas.
The warning follows several days of hot and stormy weather across southern and inland Morocco.
