Morocco moved into fifth place in the live FIFA men’s ranking on Friday after Brazil drew 1-1 with Australia, allowing the Atlas Lions to overtake the five-time world champions.
Morocco remain on 1,803.99 points, while Brazil lost just over two points from the draw to fall to about 1,802.90, according to calculations based on FIFA’s ranking formula.
The move matches Morocco’s highest-ever position and the best ranking previously reached by an African national team.
Morocco had already climbed to sixth in the most recent published ranking, just 0.93 points behind Brazil.
Spain remain first following their World Cup triumph, ahead of Argentina, France and England.
Morocco’s rise is provisional until FIFA publishes its next official ranking update, but Brazil’s draw is enough under the current points system to place the Atlas Lions fifth.
