Morocco’s national weather service warned Monday of thunderstorms accompanied by hail and strong wind gusts in several provinces, while high temperatures are expected in other parts of the country.
The General Directorate of Meteorology issued an updated orange-level weather alert, warning of thunderstorms producing between 20 and 30 millimeters of rainfall, along with hail and strong wind gusts.
The storms are expected Monday from 2 p.m. to 11 p.m., according to the alert.
The affected provinces include Aousserd, Errachidia, Zagora, Tinghir, Boujdour, Oued Eddahab and Ouarzazate. The weather service urged residents in the affected areas to take necessary precautions while the warning remains in effect.
Meanwhile, temperatures of between 38 C and 40 C are expected Monday and Tuesday in several other parts of Morocco, also under an orange-level alert.
The heat is forecast to affect the provinces of Khemisset, Taroudant, Laayoune, Chtouka Ait Baha, Inezgane-Ait Melloul, Kenitra, Sidi Kacem, Sidi Slimane, Berrechid, Settat, Sidi Bennour, Youssoufia, Tan-Tan, Guelmim, Tarfaya and Agadir Ida-Outanane.
