The Moroccan tennis team concluded the first day of its Davis Cup World Group II face off against Nigeria on Saturday with a 2-0 lead, unfolding at the Club des Cheminots in Rabat.
Morocco solidified its lead thanks to Yassine Dlimi’s victory in the second singles match. Karim Bennani, for his part, had won the first game.
After the match, Yassine Dlimi said he was “very happy to have won this match and to have helped the team secure a second important point.”
“Karim Bennani’s convincing victory in the first match gave me a huge boost,” he added, noting that he made sure to “maintain the same level of concentration to close out the match.”
“We’ve taken an important step, but we’ll approach tomorrow’s matches with the same seriousness to officially secure qualification,” the Moroccan player continued.
The competition will resume on Sunday with the doubles match, followed by two singles matches.
A victory in this series would secure the Moroccan team’s spot in the Davis Cup World Group I playoffs, scheduled for February 2027.
