The total assets of Morocco’s financial sector reached MAD 3.83 trillion in 2025, marking an annual increase of 11.2%, according to the 13th Annual Financial Stability Report.
Jointly published by the Central Bank (BAM), the Moroccan Capital Market Authority (AMMC) and the Insurance and Social Welfare Supervisory Authority (ACAPS), the report notes that the sector’s total assets – covering the banking sector, the insurance and social welfare sector, and the capital market – represented 223% of the country’s GDP.
The banking sector remained the cornerstone of Morocco’s financial system, maintaining a stable 61% share of total financial sector assets.
Meanwhile, the capital market continued to expand its footprint, driven in particular by the growth of undertakings for collective investment in transferable securities (UCITS). As a result, the capital market’s share of total financial system assets rose to 25%, up from 23% in 2024.
The report also shows that the financial sector’s share of the Casablanca Stock Exchange’s market capitalization declined to 34.55%, compared with 39.06% a year earlier. The sector’s stock market capitalization is made up of seven banks, five insurance companies and five finance companies.
According to the report, this decline reflects increasing sectoral diversification on the stock market, driven by greater recourse by companies to market-based financing.
