Morocco’s economy is showing persistent resilience against global uncertainties said on Thursday in Bangkok Taline Koranchelian, Deputy Director in the Middle East and Central Asia Department of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

“Moroccan economy’s growth prospects remain genuinely favorable despite a very uncertain global context,” Koranchelian told MAP, on the sidelines of the IMF and World Bank annual meetings held in Bangkok, Thailand.

She added that this resilience is supported by the solidity of the Kingdom’s institutions, the investment momentum, and the implementation of cautious policies, which enabled the country to strengthen its productive capacities and better deal with diverse shocks.

“The economic growth in the first semester of 2026 remains solid, particularly driven by the improvement of agriculture production, the resilience of the services sector, and the continuity of investments in infrastructures,” she stated.

According to IMF projections, the real growth of Morocco’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) should reach 4.5% in 2026, before settling at 4.2% in 2027, Koranchelian recalled.

Regarding the medium-term prospects, Koranchelian emphasized the necessity of building on the progress made in order to accelerate human capital development and foster job opportunities, especially the youth.

In this regard, she noted that the Moroccan authorities have already initiated many significant reforms, while stressing the need to maintain the efforts, particularly with regard to the reform of the educational system.

These reforms are essential for improving suitability between the available skills and the job market needs, reinforcing growth potential, and enabling Morocco’s economy to take full advantage of the progress achieved, she maintained.

The IMF and the World Bank 2026 annual meetings take place in an international context marked by geopolitical tensions, pressure on energy prices, rising public debt, and shifts brought about by the rise of AI.
