At least 10 young Moroccan migrants, including two minors, have been reported missing after attempting to swim to the occupied city of Ceuta, with their families continuing to search for them, according to Spanish news outlet El Faro de Ceuta.
The number of reported missing continues to grow, with families from El Jadida, Agadir, Chefchaouen and Fnideq saying they have lost contact with relatives who attempted the crossing.
According to the report, the missing were among roughly 200 migrants who tried to reach the Spanish enclave by sea during celebrations following Spain’s World Cup victory.
Most attempts reportedly took place near the Tarajal border area, while around 30 people tried to enter Ceuta through the Benzú coastline from the nearby Moroccan locality of Beliones.
Among those reported missing is a 17-year-old identified as W.B., who is believed to have entered the sea on Sunday night alongside another young man, Youssef.
Another 17-year-old, identified as A.M., has also been missing since the weekend after attempting the crossing.
According to El Faro de Ceuta, A.M. had told his parents he was traveling to Fnideq with friends, but they have not heard from him since.
The list of missing also includes 18-year-old A. Al J. from El Jadida, who has been unaccounted for since the World Cup celebrations, and another 18-year-old, Saad, from Chefchaouen.
Saad reportedly left from Fnideq with a friend before attempting the crossing. While his companion later returned to Morocco, Saad has not been heard from since.
Also reported missing is 19-year-old E.A., who disappeared about a week ago after attempting to reach Ceuta by sea.
A 20-year-old identified as H.A. has likewise been missing since last Friday after informing relatives that he intended to make the crossing.
Two cousins, identified as S.A. and A.A., have also been missing since Friday, July 17. Their family says they have received no information about their whereabouts since they left during the World Cup celebrations.
The list further includes 22-year-old H.M. from Agadir, who has been missing for about a week after reportedly attempting to swim to Ceuta.
Spanish authorities have not publicly confirmed the fate of those reported missing. Families continue to appeal for information as search efforts and inquiries into their whereabouts continue.
