Turkish Navy corvette TCG Burgazada arrived at the port of Tangier on Friday as part of ongoing defense cooperation between Morocco and Turkey, Turkey’s state-run Anadolu Agency reported.
The MILGEM-class warship was visited by Turkish Ambassador Mustafa Ilker Kilic, alongside Moroccan officials, diplomats and military attachés accredited in Rabat. Commander Ercan Aras briefed the delegation on the vessel’s capabilities, Anadolu said.
The port call comes as Morocco continues to diversify its defense partnerships while modernizing the Royal Navy, alongside broader efforts to strengthen its domestic defense industry.
Security analyst Mohamed Chqir said the visit could also serve as an opportunity for Turkey to showcase its naval industry to Morocco, which has expanded procurement beyond its traditional suppliers in recent years.
Military analyst Abderrahmane Mekkaoui said the visit reflected growing defense cooperation between Rabat and Ankara, pointing to existing collaboration in the defense sector and Turkey’s interest in expanding industrial partnerships with Morocco.
