Morocco’s run at the 2026 FIFA World Cup is attracting growing support from football fans around the world, with videos shared online showing supporters from several countries celebrating the Atlas Lions’ progress in the tournament.
Morocco advanced to the Round of 16 after defeating the Netherlands in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw in the Round of 32, prompting celebrations among fans well beyond the Kingdom.
In Indonesia, videos circulating on social media showed supporters gathered in the waiting area of a healthcare facility cheering and jumping after Ismael Saibari converted the decisive penalty that sent Morocco through.
Another video shared on Instagram by an Indonesian user showed dozens of fans watching the penalty shootout together before erupting in celebration as Morocco secured qualification for the knockout stage.
In China, Morocco’s victory also generated significant attention on the social media platform RedNote, where users celebrated the Atlas Lions’ qualification, according to local media.
The reports said Morocco’s fan community on the platform has grown to more than 10,000 members, making it the second most active national team fan group on RedNote during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Among the posts, one user said they became a Morocco supporter after witnessing local children’s passion for football during a visit to the Kingdom in 2016. Others praised the team’s determination, describing the Atlas Lions as a “strong and wonderful team.”
Support also came from elsewhere in Africa.
The administrator of the Nigeria-based Instagram account Footballintel Africa, which has approximately 59,000 followers, posted a video wearing Morocco’s national team jersey and described the Atlas Lions as the continent’s football standard-bearers.
“There is no accident about Morocco playing good football,” he said. “The rest follow.”
Additional videos shared by fans from across the Arab world and other regions showed supporters celebrating Morocco’s victory over the Netherlands, which had entered the match as one of the favorites after an impressive group-stage campaign.
Morocco will face Canada in the Round of 16 as it seeks to extend its World Cup run.
