Morocco’s Cluster Maintenance 4.0 has launched ReliX, a new industrial reliability framework designed to help manufacturers modernize maintenance practices through artificial intelligence, data-driven technologies and sustainability, with plans for gradual expansion across Africa.
The initiative, developed by public, private and academic stakeholders within the cluster, aims to address the growing challenges facing industrial maintenance as companies adopt digital technologies while operating aging production facilities.
According to the cluster, ReliX was developed following consultations with Moroccan industrial companies, which identified a gap between advances in technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins and data analytics and the continued reliance on reactive or scheduled maintenance practices.
The organization said the framework seeks to bridge that divide by providing a structured approach to industrial reliability rather than introducing another standalone maintenance tool.
At the core of the initiative is the “Hexagon” framework, which is built around six pillars: Perceive, Predict, Prescribe, Perform, People and Planet. The model is intended to integrate technical, human, digital and environmental factors into a single industrial reliability strategy.
ReliX also includes a five-level maturity model that ranges from reactive maintenance to fully autonomous operations, along with a seven-principle code designed to establish common standards for industrial reliability across companies of different sizes and sectors.
Beyond equipment maintenance, the framework incorporates workforce development, data utilization, energy efficiency and climate-related considerations into industrial performance management.
Cluster Maintenance 4.0 said the initiative is intended as an open platform for manufacturers, engineering schools, universities, startups and industry experts seeking to promote a reliability culture tailored to African industrial markets.
Over the next year, the organization plans to roll out a series of monthly podcasts, thematic webinars and expert-led masterclasses, while establishing community chapters across North, West and East Africa.
The cluster also announced plans to organize the inaugural ReliX Summit Africa, which is expected to become an annual gathering for industrial reliability professionals across the continent.
The launch forms part of Morocco’s broader efforts to strengthen its position as a regional industrial hub and promote locally developed technological frameworks beyond its borders through partnerships with industrial, academic and institutional stakeholders.
During the launch event, the cluster signed two cooperation agreements.
The first is a partnership with the Federation of Metallurgical, Mechanical and Electromechanical Industries (FIMME) to promote participation in the 2026 International Exhibition for Productive Technological Solutions (SISTEP 2026), including mobilizing at least 15 member companies and offering participation incentives.
The second is a letter of intent with the French Association of Maintenance Engineers and Managers (AFIM) to cooperate on knowledge sharing, technical events, professional networking and joint initiatives aimed at improving maintenance training, workforce skills and the attractiveness of maintenance careers. The organizations said the agreement serves as a framework for future collaborative projects.
