Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima Governor Younes Tazi on Monday urged the region’s elected officials to make the most of the remaining year of the Regional Council’s mandate, saying it should not become a period of “opposition for the sake of opposition.”
Speaking at the council’s October session, Tazi said anyone able to contribute to improving citizens’ lives should do so, arguing that political courage should be directed toward improving current conditions and building a better future.
He called for moving beyond what he described as “politicking” and said regional authorities had been instructed to work with all stakeholders in a spirit of cooperation and seriousness, with the aim of delivering reforms.
“What ultimately matters is everything that serves the citizen,” Tazi said, adding that institutions have several avenues available to address urgent needs across the region.
He said respectful debate was healthy when aimed at improving performance, but warned against political opportunism, positioning or attempts to derail discussions.
Tazi also called for ensuring that no area or group feels excluded from development efforts, stressing the need for balanced progress across the region.
Regional Council President Omar Moro said the next phase should focus on continuing planned projects, accelerating implementation and addressing obstacles.
Moro said the council had worked since the beginning of its mandate to implement a shared vision through programs, projects and partnerships with local authorities and government institutions.
He said citizens were ultimately looking for tangible improvements in public services, employment and living conditions across the region.
Moro also stressed the importance of “territorial equity,” saying regional resources should be allocated according to needs and priorities while ensuring that all provinces, emerging centers and rural areas benefit from development.
He called for closer coordination, faster implementation and regular monitoring of commitments to address obstacles in a spirit of cooperation and responsibility.
