More than 200 easyJet passengers were stranded in Morocco after a technical issue forced the cancellation of a flight from Marrakech to Manchester, leaving travelers waiting for nearly 10 hours at the airport, according to British media reports.

The Manchester Evening News reported that passengers were due to depart from Marrakech Menara Airport on Wednesday but were informed they would have to remain in Morocco for an additional night after the aircraft was grounded.

One passenger, Adam Ramouz, told the newspaper that the aircraft had already arrived late from Manchester, landing about two hours behind schedule after its planned departure at 10:40 a.m.

According to the report, passengers preparing to board the return flight were kept waiting for around two hours before the aircraft was removed from the gate area.

Ramouz said confirmation of the cancellation did not come until several hours later, leaving an estimated 235 passengers waiting at the airport without clear information.

“They called us to get up, and we were stood for maybe two hours, then we watched the plane get tugged away,” he told the newspaper, criticizing the lack of communication during the delay.

The Manchester Evening News reported that passengers were eventually transferred to temporary accommodation. However, Ramouz described the arrangements as disorganized, claiming that some families were left without rooms.

In a statement to the outlet, easyJet said affected passengers were expected to return to Manchester on Thursday. The airline attributed the disruption to a technical issue on the inbound flight, as well as the impact of the delay on crew members’ legally regulated working hours.

“We are doing everything possible to minimize the disruption, including providing hotel accommodation and meals for those who require them,” easyJet said.

The airline apologized for the inconvenience and said passenger safety remains its highest priority.
