Royal Air Maroc launched its first direct flight between Casablanca and Los Angeles on Sunday, opening a new 12 hour connection between Morocco and the U.S. West Coast as the national carrier continues to expand its long haul network.
The inaugural flight departed Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca at 4:00 a.m., marking the airline’s latest push into North America, where it already operates direct services to New York, Washington, Miami, Montreal and Toronto.
The new route will operate three times a week, with departures from Casablanca on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Return flights leave Los Angeles at 10:20 a.m. local time and arrive in Casablanca the following day.
Royal Air Maroc Chief Executive Officer Abdelhamid Addou described the launch as a milestone for the airline and for air connectivity between Africa and the United States, saying the route strengthens links between the African continent and the American West Coast.
The service forms part of Royal Air Maroc’s expansion strategy under a development agreement signed with the Moroccan government in July 2023. It follows the launch of other long haul routes, including Beijing, Sao Paulo and St. Petersburg.
The airline said the route is designed to serve Moroccan and African diaspora communities, tourists, business travelers and football fans traveling to the United States. Flights are operated using wide body aircraft equipped for long haul travel with onboard entertainment and passenger services.
