Spain’s port of Almería said it is strengthening ferry connections with Morocco, particularly the Almería–Nador route, ahead of the annual summer transit of Moroccans living abroad (MRE).

Traffic to Morocco accounts for nearly 70% of the port’s annual activity, the port authority said, underscoring the route’s strategic importance during peak summmer travel.

The port has launched an international communication campaign targeting MRE communities in France, Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands to promote its services ahead of the busy season.

Capacity is also being increased with the arrival of ferry operator Africa Morocco Link (AML), which is expected to boost frequency and passenger capacity on the Almería–Nador line.

Port authority president Rosario Soto said the measures aim to better anticipate passenger flows and improve operational efficiency and service quality.

Almería remains a key maritime gateway between Europe and northern Morocco, particularly for routes serving the Nador region.
