Several road construction and maintenance companies have yet to resume work on projects across parts of northern Morocco following floods and landslides that damaged infrastructure in multiple provinces, according to local Hespress AR sources.
Projects in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region have stalled after heavy rainfall earlier this winter caused significant damage to roads that were under construction or undergoing repairs.
Sources familiar with the situation said the companies involved suffered substantial financial losses after unexpected storms partially or completely destroyed sections of road they had been working on.
Local municipal leaders in the affected areas have called on the contractors to resume work and repair the damagerevealed by the floods, but they say they have so far received little response from the companies responsible for the projects.
According to the same sources, the contractors are seeking to benefit from insurance coverage and government support, particularly after authorities declared some of the affected areas disaster zones, a classification that may allow companies to activate insurance clauses in their contracts.
These efforts to claim insurance compensation and renegotiate project costs could delay repairs to damaged roads, sources said.
Other sources noted that although the companies suffered losses due to exceptional weather conditions, they remain bound by their contractual obligations and can rely on legal mechanisms available in such circumstances.
Some contractors have already raised concerns with regional officials in the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region about the difficulties they face following the floods and are reportedly considering legal procedures to revise project conditions and limit their financial losses.
