Floodwaters again inundated large stretches of farmland in areas hit by recent flooding around Ksar El Kebir and nearby rural communes, after Oued Warour breached protective works and cut the road linking Ksar El Kebir to Tangier near the entrance to Souaken, according to local residents.
Residents told Hespress that heavy runoff from midweek rainfall reopened the breach that authorities had tried to seal after the peak of earlier floods, allowing new flows into agricultural land.
Farmers in the affected area said the latest flooding had effectively ended hopes for spring planting. Abdel Salam Benshakra, a farmer from Douar Souaken, said the return of floodwaters had “crushed farmers’ hopes for spring crops.”
Bachir El Abidi, head of a milk cooperative in Douar Mwarâa Skouma, said the renewed overflow had compounded losses and left livestock owners struggling for feed. He said promised support had not reached many affected farmers, who are now calling for direct financial aid.
