Patrice Motsepe, president of the Confederation of African Football, on Friday confirmed that Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in 2026 will be held in Morocco as scheduled, dismissing reports that the kingdom might withdraw as host.
Speaking at a news conference in Dar es Salaam, Motsepe said the tournament will take place from March 17 to April 3, adding that the African governing body remains fully committed to Morocco.
“The next Women’s Africa Cup of Nations is going ahead, and there is strong competition and clear enthusiasm among countries interested in hosting,” Motsepe said. “Morocco has been a major supporter. Several countries submitted hosting requests, but time constraints limited our options. As of now, the commitment with Morocco remains fully in place.”
Motsepe noted that some countries proposed hosting the tournament at a different time, but said rescheduling was not possible due to its link to qualification pathways for the Women’s World Cup.
“The tournament will be held on its scheduled dates, and we are confident it will be a successful edition that strengthens the position of women’s football across the continent,” he said.
