Maritime traffic at Spain’s port of Algeciras partially resumed on Thursday after a two day shutdown caused by severe weather in Cadiz province, with sailings restarting from Algeciras to Tangier while the Tarifa to Tangier route remained cancelled, the Bay of Algeciras Port Authority said.

Port officials said some restrictions were still in place, including guidance to avoid non essential vehicle movements around port areas, while ro ro operations and container terminal activity began recovering under the assessment of harbour pilots.

The gradual restart follows days of cancellations and limits on truck access that left about 2,800 vehicles stacked in holding areas inside the port, Spanish media reported.

Spain’s state weather agency AEMET kept warnings active in the area, including heavy rain alerts around Grazalema and coastal warnings for strong westerly to southwesterly winds and high seas in the Strait of Gibraltar.
