Ferry links between Tarifa in southern Spain and Tangier City were suspended on Friday because of adverse weather conditions in the Strait of Gibraltar, according to the Bay of Algeciras Port Authority.

The authority’s passenger departures board showed cancellations on the Tarifa Tangier route due to bad weather.

Spanish operators Baleària and Africa Morocco Link cancelled Friday sailings from Tarifa as strong easterly winds and rough seas affected the strait, while the port authority said Tarifa had remained closed after an initial closure on Thursday afternoon, according to Moroccan media reports.

Ferry services from Algeciras to Tangier Med were continuing normally on Friday, with scheduled departures still listed by the port authority.

Spain’s weather agency AEMET issued a yellow warning for the Strait area, forecasting easterly winds of 60 to 70 kph and waves of 4 to 5 metres, along with rain in the Cadiz Strait zone.
