Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou was named Man of the Match after saving two penalties as Morocco defeated Nigeria 4–2 in a shootout to reach the Africa Cup of Nations final.
Bounou praised coach Walid Regragui for his handling of what he described as one of the most demanding matches of the tournament.
“The match against Nigeria was not easy,” Bounou said at the post-match news conference. “But the group gave everything until it came down to penalties.”

Morocco controlled large stretches of the match at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, pressing high and dominating possession, but were unable to break down a disciplined Nigerian side over 120 minutes.
Bounou played a decisive role when the match went to penalties, saving Nigeria’s opening attempt and later denying a second effort to swing momentum firmly in Morocco’s favour.
“What I did today is simply the job of a goalkeeper,” he said. “In football, we are guards. Sometimes the team needs you, like today. Thankfully, things worked out, but in the end, it’s football.”
Nigeria created few clear chances in open play, relying mainly on long balls toward Victor Osimhen, who was largely isolated. Their best opportunity came through Ademola Lookman, whose first-half effort was saved by Bounou.
The goalkeeper also pointed to the impact of the home crowd, with 65,458 spectators filling the stadium.
“Whenever I play in Morocco, I feel the love of the supporters,” Bounou said. “That gives us responsibility to give our best in the final that all Moroccans are waiting for.”
Morocco will face Senegal national football team in Sunday’s final as they chase a second continental title, and their first since 1976.
