The United States Embassy in Morocco said the recent visit by Gen. Dagvin Anderson, commander of U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM), underscored the “strong and enduring partnership” between Washington and Rabat.

In a statement published on its official social media accounts, the embassy said Anderson’s trip included high-level meetings with senior Moroccan military officials and a visit to the Ben Guerir air base.

The embassy described the visit as a reaffirmation of the two countries’ shared commitment to peace, security and prosperity across the African continent.

In late October, Abdellatif Loudiyi, the minister delegate in charge of the National Defense Administration, met Anderson in Rabat on instructions from King Mohammed VI. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the strength of bilateral defense ties and reiterated their commitment to implementing the 2020-2030 roadmap for military cooperation.

Anderson also held talks with Gen. Mohamed Berrid, Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and commander of the Southern Zone. Discussions focused on the modernization and readiness of Morocco’s armed forces, joint training initiatives and regional security challenges.

During his stay in Rabat, the AFRICOM commander gave an exclusive interview to Hespress EN, where he described Morocco as “one of Washington’s trusted allies and strate partners in Africa.” He recalled that Morocco was among the first countries to recognize U.S. independence, and noted that bilateral military cooperation has expanded significantly.

“For twenty-two years, we have conducted African Lion together, the largest military exercise on the continent, with the participation of the Royal Armed Forces,” Anderson said.

He added that Morocco serves as a regional model for security and defense cooperation. “Morocco not only strengthens its own internal security, but also trains forces from other African countries as part of regional cooperation,” he said, highlighting the kingdom’s role in several multilateral initiatives.

According to Anderson, Morocco’s political stability, geographic position and relative military development allow it to play a central role in securing global maritime trade routes, contributing to both regional and international security.
