Morocco’s ruling National Rally of Independents (RNI) pledged to resist what it called opposition attempts to derail reforms and spread disillusionment, while reaffirming openness to “constructive criticism that offers useful and productive alternatives.”
Speaking before the House finance committee during the opening debate on the 2026 draft budget, RNI group leader Mohamed Chouki denounced “a series of malicious campaigns” that, he said, reflect “the frustration of those who have lost their political compass.” Chouki accused segments of the opposition of “fabricating drama and distorting facts instead of contributing to solutions.”
He warned that “populist discourse and political theatrics” risked undermining public trust and delaying Morocco’s development goals. “Citizens are tired of empty slogans,” he said. “They expect responsibility and real answers, not noise and misinformation.”
The remarks came amid heightened political tensions over government communication and opposition claims of executive overreach, setting the stage for a contentious budget season.
