Morocco’s public prosecutor has referred several suspects accused of looting, arson and vandalism during recent unrest in the city of Salé to an investigating judge at the Court of Appeal in Rabat.
The suspects were ordered jailed pending a detailed investigation, the prosecutor’s office said in a statement Tuesday. Authorities added that searches are still underway to identify and arrest others involved in the incidents.
The violent acts, which included setting fires and theft, drew strong condemnation from local residents and prompted heightened security measures in the city.
No further details were immediately available on the number of suspects referred or the potential charges they face.
