More than 430 Moroccan associations managing centers for children with disabilities have denounced delays in the government’s annual call for projects to finance schooling support, despite a pledge to allocate nearly 500 million dirhams annually during the current mandate.
In a joint statement, the groups accused Social Solidarity Minister Aawatif Hayar and the secretary of state for social inclusion of failing to coordinate with other ministries to secure funding, warning of a “serious disruption” that could jeopardize services for 30,000 children with disabilities and about 9,000 social workers.
The statement, endorsed by the National Observatory for Inclusive Education, the Moroccan Union of Disability Associations and other federations, said the lack of communication and participatory governance had left associations facing a “white school year.” Leaders criticized the absence of implementing decrees for social programs and accused the government of backtracking on its 2022–2026 commitments to guarantee inclusive education.
The groups plan to stage a protest outside the ministry next Wednesday to demand urgent action.
