Morocco’s Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform signed an agreement Thursday with the National Commission for the Control of Personal Data Protection (CNDP) to develop a national platform for responsible artificial intelligence.

The agreement was signed in Rabat by Minister Delegate for Digital Transition Amale Falah and CNDP president Omar Seghrouchni, the ministry said in a statement.

The deal aims to establish a framework for responsible AI, including the design of national platforms based on large language models (LLMs) developed with Morocco’s specific needs in mind. These platforms will incorporate the Moroccan language, culture, legal framework and digital identity.

Officials said the goal is to provide citizens, businesses and public administrations with safe and efficient generative AI tools that respect fundamental rights.

The ministry described the signing as a “strategic step” toward building Moroccan AI characterized by sovereignty, ethics and responsibility, strengthening the kingdom’s role in Africa’s and the world’s digital transformation.
