Moroccan authorities crack down on migrant clashes in Mohammedia
Tuesday 2 September 2025 - 18:00

Local authorities in Mohammedia launched a large-scale operation to prevent illegal migrants from gathering in new makeshift shelters in Jnan Zenata, Ain Harouda, following deadly clashes that killed two people and injured nine others last Saturday night.

Under orders from the provincial governor, Adel Maliki, security forces conducted nighttime patrols to disperse migrants and prevent the construction of new encampments.

Authorities instructed migrants to sleep at their workplaces, such as construction sites, instead of assembling in random locations.

Daily patrols involving local police, the Royal Gendarmerie, and auxiliary forces will continue until the gatherings are fully dismantled.

Six injured migrants have been discharged after treatment, while three remain hospitalized at Casablanca’s Ibn Rochd University Hospital in serious condition.

Residents of Jnan Zenata expressed fear over potential renewed conflicts among sub-Saharan migrants in the area.
