Morocco’s high-speed train, “Al Boraq,” has been ranked as the second-fastest in the world by the popular website “Business Insider.”
With an operational speed of 320 kilometers per hour (199 mph), Al Boraq ties with France’s TGV and Japan’s JR East E5 trains, placing Morocco firmly on the map of advanced nations in the railway sector.
Al Boraq, which was officially launched in 2018, was the first high-speed railway project in Africa. The train links Tangier and Casablanca, reducing the travel time between the two major cities from nearly five hours to less than two, a qualitative transformation in domestic travel.
This project is the result of an international partnership between Morocco’s ONCF and global partners, primarily from France.
The report noted that Al Boraq is significantly faster than the US’s recently launched “NextGen Acela” trains, which have an operational speed of 160 mph (257 km/h).
The Moroccan train is seen as an inspiring model for integrating modern technology in a region not traditionally known for advanced transport infrastructure, solidifying Morocco’s position as a key player in modernizing regional transport systems.
