Morocco’s high speed rail service Al Boraq is generating growing revenues and helping support future rail expansion, Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh said.

Revenues from the service rose 92 percent to 780 million dirhams in 2024 from 407 million dirhams in 2019, according to official data.

Kayouh said the project’s economic model allows commercial income to cover operating costs while generating a surplus that contributes to infrastructure financing.

He added that the national rail operator ONCF remains committed to meeting its financial obligations and maintaining sound governance, with all revenues and expenditures integrated into its overall financial and tax framework.

The minister said the model is based on cost control, flexible pricing and access to sustainable financing, with tariff policies adapted to purchasing power to improve occupancy rates.

Al Boraq accounts for about 28 percent of passenger transport revenues and has contributed to a 95 percent rise in operating income over the same period, he said.
