Morocco’s Minister Delegate in charge of the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, said on Monday that 98.4% of applications for direct social assistance were approved in June.
Speaking to the House of Representatives, Lekjaa said that 1.6% of applications were rejected due to changes in family circumstances or because applicants were receiving aid from other public or private programs.
“The law now guarantees that anyone who receives a rejection can contact the authorities in charge of the unified social register, providing documents and proof of their eligibility,” Lekjaa said, adding that ensuring transparency and access for all eligible citizens is a collaborative effort.
Lekjaa stated the government plans to review eligibility criteria in the future, noting the program is being rolled out smoothly to those who are eligible and accurately declare their status.
The minister described the direct social assistance program as a key pillar of the royal social reform project and a cornerstone of the social state, adding that the program is under “constant monitoring.”
