FIFA President: U17 World Cup Morocco-2025, game-changer for women's football

Women’sU17 World Cup (Morocco-2025) is a major event that will elevate women’s football in Africa and the Arab world, according to FIFA President Gianni Infantino.

“Morocco continues to score triumphs, demonstrating time and time again its ability to ensure the success of major sporting events,” FIFA President said in a video broadcast on the occasion of the draw for this edition, held on Wednesday at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Maamora.

Gianni Infantino noted that FIFA intends to capitalize on the Kingdom’s experience and expertise to promote women’s football in Africa and the Arab world.

Morocco, “a fabulous country and a land of football, is the first African country to host this World Cup”, he enthused, highlighting the importance of this competition, uncovering the best young players worldwide and offering them a precious opportunity to showcase their talent.

In turn, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) Fouzi Lekjaa welcomed the 24 teams taking part in the World Cup to Morocco, “a land of hospitality, civilization and prosperity”.

In a speech on the occasion, he stressed that the Mohammed VI Football Complex, which hosted the draw, is an “emblematic sports venue that embodies the exceptional development Morocco is undergoing under the reign of HM King Mohammed VI”.

The FRMF President also noted that this top-tier sporting facilities reflects the special interest the Sovereign takes in sportsmen and women, especially young people.

In the same vein, Lekjaa highlighted women’s role in the national sporting sphere, noting that the promotion of equality and parity remains fundamental to the Kingdom’s development process.

Women’s U17 World Cup, to be held from October 17 to November 8, is contested by 24 teams for the very first time, compared with 16 in previous editions.
