Morocco’s opposition parties are moving forward with a motion of censure against the government of Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, having secured the required number of parliamentary signatures, according to well-informed Hespress AR sources.

The motion, which could force the government to resign if passed, was reportedly signed by at least one-fifth of the members of parliament — the constitutional threshold required to submit such a challenge.

Parliamentary sources said the opposition’s case rests on five core arguments, most notably the government’s failure to fulfill its promised program. The motion marks only the third such initiative in Morocco’s legislative history.

Opposition leaders accuse the Akhannouch administration of repeated constitutional violations, including the prime minister’s absence from mandatory monthly parliamentary questioning sessions and the persistent no-shows of ministers during key oversight meetings.

The memorandum also criticizes the government for its management of public finances, alleging missteps that have contributed to social unrest and “an environment marked by crises, without concrete or effective solutions.”

Sources say the opposition will hold a press conference following internal consensus on the motion’s language and objectives, in order to present the document to the public and media.

If passed, the motion would constitutionally mandate the resignation of the current government—a political development that could significantly alter Morocco’s trajectory ahead of the 2026 legislative elections.
